Correlation between Academic Achievement and MMPI Profile in Medical Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify predictive validity of MMPI(Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) by identifying correlation between academic achievement and MMPI profile in medical students.
Subjects were 121 freshmen of the year 1987 in Hanyang university medical college. MMPI was carried out by all of the subject at the time of matriculation. By checking grade of all subject, we divided the subject into subgroups according to level
of
grades, existence and/or nonexistence of failure in an examination, frequency of failure in an examination and so on Based on these ma terials, we investigated the correlation between academic achievement and MMPI profile in medical students.
No statistically significant difference was recognized between MMPI two-code type result and academic achievement. In case of failure group, the average score of Ma scale was higher than that of nonfailure group. And in case of superior grade
group, the
average score of K scale was higher and of pa scale was lower than that of inferior grade group at the second year of premedical course. No other statistically significant differences were noticed between MMPI profile and academic achivement.
As a conclusion, we suggested that MMPI is not satisfactory tool which has predictive validity of academic achievement in medical students.
